Internet for everyone (via satellite in 3rd world countries)

A not for profit group has proposed to buy one of the most capable satellites owned by a failing corporation. The plan is that rather than just let it die and drift off into space or reenter the earths orbit and burn up, why not raise the money then repurpose it to server free internet via satellite to third world countires. Buy This Satellite plans to manufacture cheapp satellite modems and deliver them to third world communities to bring them online and into the 21st century.

“Buy This Satellite says it’ll take $US150,000 in contributions to place a successful bid on the orphaned Terrestar-1, at which point its orbit will be moved in order to supply a connection to countries in need – for free.”
