I have covered this before that we are running out of IP addresses, well officially today ICAAN assigned the last 5 blocks of addresses.
This doesn’t mean a whole lot to the average internet user as plenty of IP pools are still held by ISP’s for use on public devices and servers. It is however a milestone event highlighting the need to continue and establish the IPv6 protocol and how it will be integrated into the internet as a whole.
With IP4toIP6 and IP6toIP4 and other protocols, this will be quite seemless and DNS will take care of most public facing issues. We will start seeing more backend stuff for IPv6 though.
